Get ready for major growth in the Biopharma sector! A new report, Skills for Biopharma, predicts 21,000 new jobs in Ireland’s BioPharma industry by 2027. Over the next three years, this thriving field is expected to expand rapidly, creating high demand for skilled professionals across the country.
As a key part of Ireland’s tech ecosystem, Biopharma has long been a driving force behind the nation’s economic success. This innovative sector consistently attracts fresh graduates while requiring advanced skills from its current workforce to keep pace with technological advancements.
Minister for Enterprise, Trade, and Employment, Peter Burke, highlighted the critical role of Biopharma in Ireland’s economic future. He stated, “It’s essential that Ireland steps up to the challenge of providing the skilled workers needed to support this remarkable growth.”
Burke also stressed the importance of upskilling and talent recruitment, both locally and internationally, to meet the rising demand. An implementation group has been tasked with driving innovation and fostering industry-specific education, ensuring a competent and capable workforce for the future.
The booming Biopharma sector will not only see a surge in staff numbers, but also the need for specialised skills as manufacturing technologies evolve and digital processes take centre stage. In particular, innovative and research-focused professionals will be essential in fulfilling regulatory roles and other key positions.
Tony Donohoe, chair of the EGFSN, echoed this sentiment, saying, “The education and training sectors must align with industry needs and offer relevant courses in sufficient quantities. There’s a tremendous opportunity for Ireland’s Biopharma sector if we can secure the necessary skills in the next five years.”
The future of Biopharma in Ireland is incredibly bright, with countless opportunities on the horizon. Together, we can rise to the challenge, nurture essential skills, and drive growth in this dynamic and exciting industry.
